Cytomegalovirus (CMV)
Any of several herpes viruses (Herpesviridae)
whose infection causes cellular enlargement and formation of eosinophilic inclusion bodies, especially in a cell’s nucleus;
transmitted by sexual contact or exposure to infected body fluids; not highly contagious and occasionally produces mononucleosis-like
symptoms in otherwise healthy adults, but acts as an opportunistic infectious agent in immunosuppressive conditions (such
as AIDS).
