chronic lack of sufficient lubrication and moisture in the eye(s), causing sensations of dryness, scratchiness, burning; can be caused by conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren’s syndrome, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, xerophthalmia, lupus erythematosis, Grave’s disease, diabetes, or scleroderma.
